1894/95

Tramway survey

 

1896

Construction of Jetty commenced with 2ft gauge tram line

 

1898

Horse Drawn passenger carriage—Wheels in Shire yard (ex museum)

 

 

Line connection with Jetty with township and a branch to Streeters Jetty

 

 

Rolling Stock:

Five wagons
One ton crane
NB: 2 H series wooden wagons in Museum yard

1901

Rolling Stock:

10 wagons
One ton crane
NB: Crane in shire yard (ex museum)

1902

Passenger car under construction

 

1904

Rolling Stock:

18 one ton trucks
2 x 4 ton trucks

2 x 8 ton bogie trucks
1 passenger car, 1 crane

1906

Line converted to 3’6” because of the extra load and a larger rolling stock.

 

 

Rolling Stock  updated and new stock was purchased

 

1910

Steam 9.5 ton locomotive

 

 

Orenstein & Koppel 0-4-OT builders no 4058 “Coffee Pot”

 

 

Extra sidings at Dampier Tce and at the depot

 

 

Rolling Stock:

Five new trucks and 1 meat van
A travelling water tank

Two passenger cars

1912

Dyckerhoff locomotive “New Century” internal combustion engine NW3 Serial No 161 “Kaiser”

 

1915

“Kaiser” transferred to Wyndham

Resides in the Port of Wyndham’s yards

1922

New steam locomotive from Andrew Barclay Serial No 1754 “Kimberley”

 

1939

Demco Meatworks constructed
Extra rail line to meatworks

 

1942

Japanese strafed Broome and the railway line between the old post office and Chinatown was damaged.

 

1946

Passenger service restored with a rail motor (constructed from a utility truck with flanged wheels)

 

1949

Simplex Dorman diesel four-wheel locomotive PW32 S/N 9008  “Katie” arrived in Broome

 

1950

“Kimberley” transferred to Carnarvon

NB: has been restored, operated in Carnarvon and now in Storage in Carnarvon

1952

“Coffee Pot” out of service in Broome and stored in Carnarvon.

NB: is at present outside the Carnarvon Jetty and light railway

1955

Simplex Dorman diesel four-wheel locomotive PW29 S/N 9097 arrived in Broome

 

1960

“Kimberley” was withdrawn from service and donated to kindergarten in Carnarvon

 

1962

Queen visited Broome and the Katie pulled the passenger carriage that ended up on display in Bedford Park

 

1966

Old jetty dismantled, tramway dismantled and rolling stock broken up due to completion of new deepwater jetty.

 

1966

Simplex Dorman PW32 S/N 9008 was transferred to Derby

 

 

Simplex Dorman PW29 S/N 9007 was transferred to Port Hedland

 

1981

Both Simplex Dormans were sold to Crosse Hull Kununurra scrap metal dealers

 

1995

Museum obtained the Simplex Dormans from Kununurra

 

2006

Restoration of the one Simplex Engine “Katie” in Broome
