The Vision for the Old Broome Tramway

To reconstruct the historical tramway system, that ran from the Old Jetty at Mangrove Point into Chinatown.

To restore one of the Simplex engines back to working order and to have passenger carriages rebuilt.

To run this tramway as a working historical project to be run by the Broome Tramway Inc.

To create an historical icon so that future generations in Broome and the tourists can enjoy a snapshot of the old Broome.

Along the tramway there will be “stations”.  These will be at strategic places along the line:

Station 1     Mangrove Point Station at Mangrove Point (old Jetty) - interpretation of the area, Pioneer Cemetery, One Day War, Old Jetty

Station 2     Museum Station - interpretation of the goods yards

Station 3     Conti Station at Mecure Continental - interpretation of the Hotel, Bedford Park, Roebuck Bay

Station 4     Matsos Station at Matsos Restaurant - history of Union Bank and Capt Gregory

Station 5     Courthouse Station at The Court House - history of courthouse, markets & prison, Old lockup

Station 6     Male Oval Station at Broome Visitor Centre - history of tourist bureau

Station 7     Carnarvon St Station near Roebuck Bay Hotel - history of Chinatown
